Macrosetella gracilis (harpactricoid copepod)

Collected: at the surface ~30 km offshore from Georgetown, SC.

Notes:

Macrosetella  is one of the few truly planltonic harpacticoid copepods. It is usually associated with the large, filamentous cyanobacterium Trichodesmium typically found in tropical or Gulf Stream waters.

Here, the two long caudal setae are pressed together.
