Labidocera aestiva

Location: 1-2 km offshore from Chincoteague, VA. Depths of 5-7 meters. Caught using an epibenthic sled (363 micrometer mesh). Date: July 2005

Notes:Labidocera aestiva is one of the most common large copepods in nearshore ocean waters and high salinity estuaries of the mid and south Atlantic coast. Labidocera often stay near the bottom during the day and migrtate toward the surface after dark. Labidocera aestiva is one of the most common large copepods in nearshore ocean waters of the mid and south Atlantic coastline.

Note the reddish pigment at the anterior end.
